Dirty Dancing was released when I was in the 5th grade. A girl I went to school with had an end of year party to celebrate us going to middle school and we all watched this excellent movie. Every time I watch it, I am reminded of my last days of elementary school.
Dirty Dancing stars Patrick Swayze as Johnny and Jennifer Grey as Baby. Johnny is a dancer and dance instructor at a vacation resort and Baby is a guest at the resort. Baby’s father is a doctor and they visit the resort every year along with Baby’s mother and older sister.
This year, Baby notices someone she has never seen before, Johnny. She is immediately drawn to his good looks and good dance moves; however, Baby is very shy and can’t dance at all. When Johnny’s dance partner ends up in trouble, Baby offers to help out. Johnny has no idea what he has in store for him. Baby must sneak around to take dance lessons and it takes a lot of effort on her and Johnny’s part for Baby to learn all the dance moves.
Chemistry begins to develop between the two. Baby, who is has always been Daddy’s Girl, doesn’t want to tell her father about Johnny. She knows that her father is very judgmental and she is afraid that Johnny wouldn’t be good enough for her father.
Can Baby learn the dances so she can dance with Johnny at the end of season dance? Can Baby convince her father that he should give Johnny a chance? Watch this movie to find out!
Dirty Dancing is rated PG-13. I watched it first when I was eleven, but you might want to watch it before you let your child watch it.
This is an excellent movie that I have watched more times than I can count. I used to watch it on television every time it was one. Then, my mother-in-law gave me the movie as a gift so I could watch it anytime I wanted. I am so glad she did!
