I’m sure you’ve all heard about someone who had their identity stolen. Oh, the horror stories! Well, about 2 years ago, I was in my home minding my own business when someone stole my work bag out of my van! Where where those darn neighbor’s dogs when I needed them!

Well, I’m sure they were disappointed to learn that although it looked fat and loaded with good stuff, there really wasn’t that much in there. Unfortunately, my driver’s license, social security card and bank card WERE in my bag. Of course I canceled my bank card first thing the next morning. But that still left me pretty wide open to identity theft. So, I called all my credit card companies (only two thank goodness) to alert them to the theft so they could monitor my account.

Discover said they could do one better….I could sign up for their Identity Theft Protection Service. Now, I’m not sure what the cost was when I signed up…but just last month I canceled the service and it was up to a wopping $13 a month!

Basically what the service does is send you a notice if there is any change in your credit. And then quarterly you get a several page credit report that tells your score and details for Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion.

Now, not that the service isn’t good, I’m just not sure I want to fork out $13 a month anymore…but now right after my stuff was stolen, I gladly paid the fee for a piece of mind:0)
