Several years ago we were shopping at The Art of Disney store located at the Downtown Disney Marketplace. This is one of our favorite stores to visit and on this visit we saw a poster that we just had to have. We are not big on purchasing posters and prefer other forms of limited edition art work but this poster was so special and unique that we had to have it.
The poster is a limited edition full theatrical poster for the last release to theaters of the movie Snow White. Snow White is not one of my favorite Disney movies but the image on this poster actually fits in nicely with our Disney Villains collectibles. The image is a picture of the mirror from the movie along with the title Mirror, Mirror on the Wall written across the top and Walt Disney's classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs written below. What makes the poster so special is that the mirror is made out of a metallic, reflective paper that you can actually see yourself in. I tried to capture the colors and the uniqueness of the image in my pictures but the light reflecting off the image as well as the glass over the frame, has caused distortion in the pictures and they do not do it justice.
When we brought the poster home the next step was to figure out how we were going to frame it. My husband had a friend who worked at a frame shop and when we showed him the poster he said he would do something amazing for us and while it would not be cheap, he would only charge us for the cost of the materials. We left it to him and what he turned this poster into was a one of a kind piece of art.
First, he added a 3 1/2 inch ornately carved gold wooden frame to the outside. Next, he added a 3 1/2 in maroon velvet mat that not only picked up the colors in the poster but also the maroon tones in the frame. To finish it off, he added 1/2 inch wooden gold border piece and glass over the top of it all.
The final piece ended up costing us almost $400.00 between the cost of the poster and the framing materials but what we ended up with is beautiful. Our house has very high ceilings and this massive piece of art hangs perfectly on the wall above of mantle. Everyone who sees it can not believe it started out as just a poster.
