Disney's The Rescuers is great movie from 1977 that our family recently discovered. Although I hate mice and this movie is about mice, I still think it is a very good movie.
The movie opens as a group of ambassador mice gather together to discuss resuce missions. They have found a bottle with a note from a little girl named Penny that needs help. Miss Bianca, a very proper mouse, decides that she would like to take on the mission to save the little girl. Although all the male mice volunteer to help her, Miss Biance chooses Bernard, who is not one of the ambassador mice, to help her.
The two little mice start their mission and discover that Penny has been kidnapped by Madame Medusa and taken to the bayou. The take a flight on a bird to get the boat on the bayou that Penny is on only to discover that it is protected by two alligators. Can these two little mice survive the alligators to rescue Penny?
This movie is great because it teaches kids that it doesn't matter how small you are, you are not too small to make a difference. I like it teaches the kids that with determination, and can accomplish anything you want to. Also, the charachters are gentle and Penny is easy to love. She is a sweet little girl that anyone would want to help out.
My husband and I watched this movie with our 8 year old daugher and we all enjoyed it. It is a very heartwarming story that I think you will enjoy.
