I happened to be searching ebay for anything with the words Dutch and Disney. I don't know what I was exactly looking for but I was happy to find the nicest children's book entitled Donald and the Big Cheese, An Adventure in the Netherlands by Grolier Enterprises. This book from the 1980's is one of a series of books from Disney's Small World Library which takes various Disney characters to different countries all over the world. These books educate and entertain only as Disney can.

This particular book takes Donald and Daisy to the Netherlands after Daisy won a trip for two in a cheesecake baking contest where she had entered her windmill cheesecake. This starts an adventure with Donald and Daisy through the Netherlands with their tour guide Hans. Daisy has taken a liking to Hans making Donald jealous and so starts the their cultural trip through the canals of Amsterdam, eating raw herring, getting wooden shoes, a tour of the museums, bicycling through fields of tulips and a tour of a working windmill which get Donald into lots of trouble. Next comes a trip to a delft pottery shop and finally to the city of Gouda which is well known for its delicious cheese. Here Donald saves Daisy from a huge wheel of cheese that has gotten away from the workers. Daisy is very grateful to Donald and is now paying more attention to him instead of Hans.

At the end of the book are some very important and educational facts of the Netherlands and its people. I found this book to be entertaining and I thought the illustrations were beautiful and added so much to the storyline. This hardcover book measures 7-1/2 x 10-1/4 and is the perfect size for reading aloud to preschoolers and also a great beginner book for the younger students just learning how to read.

My book came in brand new condition with no wear for 99 cents plus a small shipping fee. I just purchased 4 more this weekend so I can give one to each of my younger nieces and nephews. Who doesn't like Disney and actually having fun learning geography at the same time!
