Every year we take a family vacation. There are 15 of us total. Yes, at times vacations are trying, especially when traveling with your family. However, this years vacation topped the cake!
We selected the Crown Paradise Hotel in Cancun, Mexico. We made our selection based on the 5 out of 6 Apple rating by Apple Vacations and the hotels advertising of the Kids Club. All the printed materials listed child care options at the resort for all children 18 months through 12 years old from 9 AM to 9:45 PM. This was not the case at all! When we first arrived, we learned that the hours of the child care varied by day, which is not how it was sold to us. We also learned that the daytime childcare option for a 4 year old was a two level water park, staffed by one lifeguard and an unlimited number of children. Needless to say, I was not leaving my kids!
Day two of our trip, it rained. It was a dinner time shower, however, we did not mind because it broke the heat. It was mid-90's and very humid. After an evening of fun and spending time with our kids. Did I mention that the kids club was closed on Sunday evening? What happened to everyday from 9AM to 9:45 PM. We returned to our room to find that 3/4 of the room was flooded! I called the front desk and they said they would send someone, after 3 calls, no one ever came. We had 5 rooms in our group, 3 of the 5 flooded that night. They never switched any of our rooms and only 1 was cleaned. I used the bath towels to clean mine up.
The picture included with this review is of the sugar ants that infested our bathroom at Crown Paradise Club Cancun. I called the front desk about this, asked to have our room switched and was denied. The hotel staff then sent a man to spray my entire room with bug spray at 10 PM at night, while two small children were in the room. This had to be done nightly, as there were that many ants in the infested room! Two of the five rooms booked had "sugar ants" as the hotel called them. They also said it was not a big deal!
Oh and did I mention that when it rained, the entire lobby and the majority of hallways in the hotel flooded. Do you have any idea how slippery marble floors when flooded with water? The hotel staff told us that the hotel was once 5 star, however, it suffered severe damage during the last hurricane. Not enough to close it down, however, enough to cause major issues such as floods and bugs! Eww!
There were numerous other issues with this hotel and the false advertising of this hotel by Apple Vacations.
Upon returning I contacted Apple, explained the situation, told them of my pictures and ask that they look into it. I was told that none of this happened. That I never contacted the front desk. That these problems did not exist. I replied to Apple stating that I just wanted to make them aware of the situation, etc. That I would send them my pictures of the bugs and floods. They wanted no part of it and continued to tell me that I traveled in a group of 10 and we did not experience these conditions. Group of 10, we were a group of 15, we do this every year. However, according to Apple Vacations, we only traveled with 10?
Lesson learned! Never trust or book with Apple Vacations. After searching a bit on the web, I have found nothing but bad reviews and similiar situations with Apple. It's funny, you tend to trust a known name, however, in this case, stay away!
