Dragon Naturally Speaking is a less than perfect software product for speech recognition. For those who are not fast typers, this software may be of great use once fully understood and applied. However for those who are fast typers this product may not be a necessity. Basically, the more this software is used, the more words it will be able to recognize and the "smarter" it will become. The user has three main functions to choose from which include commands, dictation, and text to speech. However, the dictation ability should be the main reason to buy this product simply because a mouse should be suffice to take care of opening and exiting applications. Once the speech recognition exercises have been completed efficiently, this product is great to use with microsoft word although the typed output keeps a slower pace than the user's input. In other words, if a user talks to fast it will take a longer time for words to appear on screen which may cause errors.

Issues with this product have been made. Problems have been reported using this product in network settings. Also, the actual design of the combined ear and mouth set through which the user can communicate might be a bit impractical. This is because the set may keep falling off the user's head since it was not designed to custom fit every user. In addition, the head set would be much easier to use if it was wireless, thus giving the user more freedom to move around. Another downfall to this product is technical support. In order to contact Nuance tech support for this software, an automatic ten dollar fee is applied before even stating any problems. If consumers are looking for that perfect speech recgonition software, they may have to wait a little longer until serious revisions and updates are made.
