As a team member at Kmart, i've always known what brands were around for pretty much everything. However batteries are one of those things where i always say "No, cheap brands are just as good". After buying a set of 8 or 12 cheapo batteries, as well as a pack of 4 duracell batteries, i set to the task of comparrison. I put the battieries in my Nintendo ds, and noticed that the Duracell batteries actually held charge and gave me power for 4 to 5 times longer then my unknown brand batteries, as well as the Duracell batteries not losing charge when not in use.
I say this because over the years i've always left my batteries in my products, and where cheaper batteries have been used (may be due to zink or other metals) batteries would continue to discharge, leaving a rusty, strong chemical left over, making battery changes that extra bit more annoying.
The best bit about the duracell batteries (may be another brand) is that the batteries charge level can be tested with a pinch at either side, showing colour battery metering.
Although the Duracell batteries are more expensive then your conventional cheapies, it is true, you get what you pay for, batteries are no different.
