The Fisher Price Easy Link Launch Pad is a wonderful educational toy for children. The recommended ages are 3+ and the Toys R' Us recommended ages are 3-5. You insert a cartridge that goes to that characters website to their game/activitie area and does not allow the child to go to another website. The only way to change websites is to change cartridges. The launch pad has its own arrow keys and enter key so your keyboard is not used and your child is not able to get into your computer files and they are safe. When we purchased this for our 3 year old son he could not wait to have it set up so he could play the games. I was so glad that the setup was quick and easy. You just plug it into your computers USB slot, install the software which is 1 cd, and put the 2 plastic pieces together and set it into the green mouse pad. It comes with 3 cartridges- Fisher Price, Dragon Tales, and Elmo. You can buy additional cartridges as well. We bought the Arthur, Clifford the Big Red Dog, Thomas the Train, and Bob the Builder in additon. You can also get The Wiggles and Barney to go with it as well. My son loves playing the Dragon Tales and especially loves going into a game that teaches him about following a recepie. He will click on ingrediants that are not in the recepie just so he can hear the "Oops try again"! Then he totally enjoys Elmo. He goes to the sesame street website with the Elmo cartridge and his favorite things to do are to click on Stories and the Lemonade stand. He learns to count some coins with this game. Then he likes to click on Oscar the Grouch and do bumper cars and he learns about sounds and letters or he goes to Bert and his bottle Caps or Oscar's game about garbage and learns about sorting by color or shape or type. Then there is Arthur, he loves to build an alien or pick the right type of face to go with the correct emotion. He loves all of his cartridges and he can play for hours and hours if I let him. There is a parental control in which you can turn printing on or off and you can set a time limit for the units use. In the beginning we had problems and the unit had to be replaced due to the base unit not reading the cartridges correctly which is why I did not give it a 5. Overall though it has been a wonderful purchase. I love hearing my son holler out to me, "I did it", or Mom, come see what I did!" This is the best thing I have bought to enable me to clean or cook. It occupies my son and gives me the free time to get the things done that I need to get done without him under foot. I highly recommend this to anyone that has a toddler that likes the computer, likes the characters Arthur, Clifford the Big Red Dog, Fisher Price, Bob the Builder, Elmo, Dragon Tales, Thomas the Train, Wiggles, or Barney; is trying to learn numbers, letters, how to use a computer mouse, and more. I believe that anyone who purchases this will be happy with it and so will the toddler it is bought for.
