Have you ever heard of Jumbo Peanut Butter? The peanut butter was marketed by Frank Tea & Spice Company, Cincinnati, Ohio in the early 1900's. The company also sold Dove Brand spices and other spices. Today, Jumbo Peanut Butter jars are very collectible.
Over the years, we have discovered several different sizes and shapes of Jumbo Peanut Butter jars. My favorite is this cute little elephant shaped glass peanut butter jar. Can you imagine buying your peanut butter in one of these today? It's only 3 1/4" tall and 3 1/4" wide. This jar is harder to find than most Jumbo Peanut Butter jars. The green glass version of this little elephant is very hard to find.
The mini Jumbo Peanut Butter jar is a cross-over collectible. This basically means it's collected by different collectors, such as those who collect advertising collectibles, peanut butter memorabilia, figural bottles and elephants. We purchased this little guy at an estate sale because we love advertising collectibles.
Jumbo Peanut Butter jars can be found at estate sales, antiques malls, flea markets, trade shows and on-line. One of the easiest places to find them is on E-Bay. Always purchase jars with original metal lids because much of the value is dependent on the closure. It can make a big difference should you decide to resell the jars later.
After giving this little elephant a home for some time, we finally traded him off on E-Bay for a hefty sum of $176.00. That's not a bad price for something that once held a bit of peanut butter.
