The Epiphone Les Paul Special II is a great guitar for beginners. The quality is unbeatable for the price. I recieved this guitar for Christmas last year and have thouroughly enjoyed it. I'm no expert when it comes to guitars but this guitar has a great sound and tone. The finish, mine in vintage sunburst, is truly amazing. The guitar comes in many different finishes. The body is all mahogany and the neck is a ''1960s" slimtaper with a rosewood fingerboard with dot inlay. The Special II has a pair of 700T and 650R humbucker pickups. Another great feature is the LockTone locking tune-o-matic bridge. It includes a heavy duty non-rotating output jack. So far, I've had no problems with it except the strings that came on it were a little rusty up toward the nut, but that was easily fixed by Ernie Ball Power Slinky Strings. It's great for practicing and jam sessions with the band. Paired with a behringer 15-watt amp I rock out in my bedroom.
The guitar has the feel and tone of the higher-end Les Paul guitars without the bank-breaking price. The tune-o-matic bridge works great and the guitar stays in tune for a long time, so you don't have to tune it everytime you pick it up. This guitar is very versatile and plays various tones. This guitar right out of the box is perfect the only thing I added was the strings and a strap. I like the guitar because it's so easy to play. The fingerboard feels great and is easy to transition chords. I ordered it from Guitar Center on sale for $150 it comes with a lifetime warranty and a great owners manual showing how to use the tune-o-matic bride and other key features. If your looking to start playing guitar you should seriously look at the Epiphone Les Paul Special II. This is a high quality guitar at a great price.
