As a nice cheap durable lower-end guitar the Epiphone Les Paul Standard will not do you any bad. It's hum-bucker style pickups could be improved, but stock they still provide a nice full sound. Many people are known to buy this guitar for the look and its quality and then upgrade the pickups in order to rival the tone of more expensive guitars for a cheaper price.
This is a classic guitar with its single cut-out allowing for easy access to the upper half of the fretboard. With two volume control knobs, two knobs for tone, a pickup toggle and adjustable action it is possible to find the exact tone for which you are looking. The tuning pegs stay in tune even when down-tuned for some heavy metal playing, which is always a nice feature to find in a guitar. The last thing a player wants is to have to retune his or her strings after every song.
Although many better guitars exist, this is the perfect mix between durability sound and price, and is great for the occasional guitar player to someone on tour who needs something they can trust to maintain its sound after hours and hours of travel.
