My husband cut his hand while installing a roof fan in our attic. As it turns out, it was a more serious cut than just a wound that needed stitches, but that's beside the point. After two visits to Urgent Care, and finally to the emergency room he eventually got the wound cleaned and stitched.
The emergency room doctor had told my husband not to get the dressing wet, so this meant he had to clean around the wound separately, yet keep the stitched area lubricated so the stitches wouldn't get dried out and ‘pull'. On the advice of the ER doctor, my husband was told to treat the newly stitched area with a triple antibiotic ointment to lubricate and promote healing. While shopping at Wal-Mart, I did a little price comparison, and noticed the Equate Triple Antibiotic ointment was about half the cost of Neosporin. Well, that's a no-brainer! I bought the Equate brand!
My husband used the ointment faithfully, until he had his follow-up appointment with his regular doctor. His doctor was VERY pleased with the way the cut had healed, and I believe it was because of the Equate Triple Antibiotic ointment! I could have purchased the "name" brand ointment, but now I know that the Equate brand is just as effective as the more expensive brand. In these times of skyrocketing costs, it's nice to know there are some products that won't empty the pocketbook, but still deliver results.
