I would call myself more of a baseball fan than a sports fan, however I do enjoy Sports Center on ESPN so I went all in and picked up a subscription to ESPN Magazine.

ESPN is a bit more bulky than the other sports magazines out there, probably because they sent it every other week, instead of weekly like Sporting News or Sports Illustrated. What this means is that the up to the minute information is generally more than a bit outdated. Things move very quickly in the sports world, especially in playoffs season or at the draft… and by the time I get my issue it is pretty much old news.

I also find the writing in ESPN rather dry… and, I hate to say this, more than a bit boring. The stories are flat. I do not see a lot of personality, and if I am going to read a magazine with “old news” I need a bit of flavor to hold my interest.

Personally, I do not care for ESPN Magazine and will not be renewing my subscription. I feel a bit embarrassed and more than a bit wasteful to say that more than once the magazine hit my recycle bin unflipped through. It just doesn’t hold my interest, even when they talk about my home team and that is pretty bad!
