I must preface my review of Evan Almighty with one very important piece of information. Anything that Steve Carell says or does, me up to often the point of tears. I find him to be one of, if not the most, funniest actors ever. So when my kids asked me to buy Evan Almighty, I didn't hesitate. This movie did not dissapoint any of us! Ok so the premise is clearly a little farfetched in that God, (Morgan Freeman) asks Evan Baxter (Steve Carell) to build an arc. Of course Evan fights the request for as long as he can. But when he finally grows a long gray beard and hair and all the animals in the world start flocking to him, he can only do one thing. Build an arc of course!
In addition to the hysterical Carell and the brilliant Freeman, Wanda Sykes is Evans hillarious assistant. As always she brings a bunch of extra laughs to anything she does.
The one thing that really bugged me about the movie was John Goodman as the politician. I love him! But he is supposed to play a big loveable guy! He is the voice of many or our beloved Disney characters. So to watch him play a person, it was a little unsettling.
My kids loved all the slapstick comedy in this film. They chuckled their way through the movie. The story line was a little tough for them to follow at some points, but the funny antics of all the animals kept the completely entertained. I of course laughed myself silly through most of this movie right up until the very unexpected ending. Evan Almighty is a great family film!
