A friend of my husband had an Everlast heavy bag that he was looking to clear out of his house, so we decided to take it off his hands. It was basically new, but he just never used it. I have used a bag exactly like this one before to workout with so I was familiar with how it should be used and how it moves.
This bag is the kind that is hug from a stand or beam in the ceiling. Because this bag is so heavy and swings freely, the beam should be thick, solid, and immobile. DO NOT hang it from pipes or anything that is not bolted down. It hangs from 4 very strong metal chains with hooks on the end.
It takes a little practice to get used to how this bag moves when you punch and kick it. It is great for not only strengthening by kicking and punching, but it's great to work on body rhythm, and provides great cardio benefits. I would suggest using lightweight boxing gloves and kickboxing foot pads with this canvas version. The rough canvas has scratched my knuckles to the point of bleeding before.
Cleaning the bag is difficult. If you get blood on it, it's just about impossible to get it all of so it doesn't leave a stain. Sweat is hard to effectively clean off too. I just spray it down with an antibacterial spray after getting stuff on it.
