Okay, you are not going to believe this! My new tablecloth is made out of plastic bottles! Yep! And it totally looks just like regular fabric. Bardwil Linens of New York, New York cleans the bottles, crushes them, then (somehow) spun into yarn, then woven into fabric.
To look at my Evolution Tablecloth, you would never imagine that it is made from recycled plastic. It is just another innovative way green thinking folks have come up with to reuse products that aren't really good for the earth. My tablecloth took 36 recycled plastic bottles to make.
What is so outstanding, besides the green factor, is that the fabric is completely liquid repellent. My grand children have spilled juice on it, my husband has dripped gravy on it, and my son made a sandwich and got mustard on it. No worries! Everything just wiped right off. Maybe if I wasn't there to wipe up the juice spill, it would eventually soak in, but this is the first fabric table cover I've been able to keep on the table for more than a few days before it needed to be laundered. This one has been on my table since I got it - six weeks ago! When I do need to wash it, it is machine washable in cold water with only non chlorine bleach. (I can't see where it will ever need bleach!)
There are also napkins and placemats available, and all are available in a variety of colors. I went neutral on my color choice with the "Linen" color. Next time, I will be brave and go for the orange!
Amazon.com had these for sale and there were a lot of positive reviews by people who love the Evolution brand tablecloth as much as I do. Go to the provided link to check out the colors and be the first in your circle of friends to "go green" with your kitchen table.
