I have a lot of genealogy materials, including old letters and even older photos. It's all been in acid-free boxes for quite a while, but I wanted to put it into something that could be easily shared with my sisters and my niece and nephew. My niece has been trying for some time to get me into scrap-booking, so I decided to combine the two.
At JoAnne's I found the perfect book. It has a tree on the front, for the family tree, and reads "Remembrance of things past warms the heart like a soft lullabye and wakens the soul like the morning song of a bird... That which is fleeting is not forgotten" which I thought was perfect for the project. In looking through all the papers there, I found an enormous variety of both cardstock and stationery to use. I found one sheet that's a light brown, matching the colors in the book, and is covered with words in different fonts, word like family, history, grandmother, past, future, sisters, and so on.
At a size of 20 inches by 20 inches I thought it was a little overwhelming, but I realize it will be big enough to add photos and copies of letters (I'm archiving the originals). I was impressed by how well the book part is put together; my only complaint is that it contains 20 sleeves, each of which can hold two pages, but there is no way to add additional pagest. Now all I have to do is start.
