Our dog, a lab mix, seems to have a perpetual skin allergy. He has super dry skin, according to the vet, and does have a lot of dandruff. He has had some real problems with his skin getting infected. When the skin gets dry it also get itcy. He just won't stop scratching and biting, which leads to a worsened infection.

Along with an antibotic when the infection became severe, the vet also recommended a fatty acid, which we first purchased there at the office for about $30. Since then I have ordered a similar product, Brite Coat, off PetMeds for only $10. He takes one capsule every day, and although he continues to have some skin problems, it does seem to make a significant difference. At first, he didn't like taking it, but now he's used to it and we even refer to it as a "treat, " which in Champ's language, is a big deal. Taking care of your pet can get to be quite expensive, so this is a good alternative to the more pricey supplements at the vet.
