Its finally here! After two years in the making TNA Impact! the video game makes its debut. The game was made by Midway Games - the makers of the popular Mortal Kombat and Unreal franchises in collaboration with Total Nonstop Action Wrestling - a wrestling organization that operates out of Nashville, Tennesee and has an office in Orlando, Florida and is the second biggest wrestling promotion after the WWE.
The game boasts of superstars galore. It includes big name wrestlers such as Sting, Kurt Angle, AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, Kevin Nash, Scott Steiner, Jeff Jarrett, Team 3D and Christian Cage. It also has very rich and lifelike graphics. The wrestlers look damn real! The tattoos, scars and other features have been included in the game. Also, the game has very easy controls which make for a fun game. It is very much unlike the WWE games which have a very complex movelist system that takes the fun out of the game. The wrestlers also come with their signature moves such as the Jackknife Powerbomb for Kevin Nash, the Styles Clash for AJ Styles and the Scorpion Deathdrop for Sting.
The game could be played in different modes. There is singles, tagteam, fatal fourway, falls count anywhere, submisssion and ultimate x. There is also a story mode where a wrestler named Suicide is featured. This wrestler is real life is speculated to be Kaz.
What I can say is that I am thoroughly impressed by the game especially considering the fact that its TNA's first video game venture. The game really feels so real and makes you feel you are in the Impact! Zone. Even the commentary by Mike Tenay and Don West is there. The moves also play very fluidly and elements of the show like the pyrotechnics and the wrestler's entrance video and themes have helped make the game even more real.
What the game could have improved on is more variety in terms of create a wrestler and more differences in the wrestler's strengths and weaknesses. They could make people like Kevin Nash or Scott Steiner much stronger and people like Jay Lethal and AJ Styles much faster. Also they should include all the TNA gimmich matches such as the six sides of steel and the terrordome.
