I got this book as a gift from a friend before I visited Finland in 2004. This book isn't meant for serious learners of Finnish since it's too small and compact. BUT if you're only interested in learning some important phrases before you visit Finland, then it's a VERY useful book for you.
It has over 2, 100 entries and there's an easy pronunciation transcription for each entry. Besides, every entry is numbered and indexed to make it easier for you to find. Since the size is small, it fits in your pocket so you don't have to carry heavy books wherever you go. It has also some common road signs at the back along with the pictures and the explanation in Finnish and English.
It's complete with all the basic necessities that a traveler may need: for example questions about renting a room, asking about road directions, and it's got even many Finnish food and drink terms and phrases. In restaurants in small towns and villages, there may not be an English menu, so in order to survive, you should know the terms before you order the wrong type of meal!
All in all, this is also good for a very beginner in learning Finnish and for people who just want to stay in Finland for a short time without worrying about the grammar. Great value for money! Plus I LOVE the fact that the binding is solid, so even though I've had this book for over 4 years now, not a single page is loose!
