Let me preface this review by saying that both my husband and I are volunteer firefighters. I was looking for a game for Playstation 2 that my husband would like, as he isn't into the fighting, football/baseball/basketball, or fantasy-type games. We had an older firefighter game (can't even recall the name) for our computer, but it just wasn't very much fun. It's hard to play games with a keyboard. When I searched the internet, I found that there just weren't many firefighter themed games out there.
I came across Firefighter F.D. 18 and found some pretty positive reviews on some game review sites. I am glad I purchased it, as my husband enjoys it and so do I. Our five year old even likes playing it. The graphics and sound are superior. It is as realistic as you could expect it to be for a video game without getting overly complicated. (If you want the real thing, go out and do it. That isn't the point of this game.) You must fight your way through various surroundings and structures to find your victims, but there is a time limit to find them alive. There are explosions. It gets very intense and it actually makes you feel the pressure and rush of trying to rescue the victim in time. It offers the player a chance to use the "tools of the trade" and encounter somewhat realistic fire. The only annoying thing about the game is the victims say the same few phrases over and over again when you rescue them (like, "What took you so long"....hmmm... maybe they should be a bit more thankful that you just saved their life??).
