When I was registering for my baby shower, I had no idea what products to register for. I knew I needed a monitor and I just registered for the first one I saw - the Fisher Prices Sounds N Lights Monitor. I wish I would have done more research first.

The unit has a transmitter that you put in the baby's room. The transmitter has a built-in night light. The monitor has lights which light up so you can see the level of your baby's activity/crying. If the baby is screaming loudly, the lights will be lit up all the way. It also transmits sounds so you can hear your baby crying. The monitor is both A/C and battery powered. This allows you to bring the unit outside or in the basement. The unit has two channels which are supposed to help with interference.

The unit was easy to assemble/install. I only had take it out of the box, put in some batteries and plug in it in the baby's room and my room.

The problems started when I turned on the unit. I was barely able to hear the baby through all the static. I couldn't rely on the lights either. They were lit all the way up from all the static noise. I tried changing the channels, moving the unit, unplugging the phone, and nothing helped.

Since I didn't start using the monitor until we moved the baby to his own room at 7 months, I was no longer able to return it as I didn't have the receipt. I probably should have called the company and complained about their bad product.

I ended up going out and buying a digital monitor and keeping the Sounds N Lights monitor as an emergency back up or for when we were traveling.

I would not recommend this monitor.
