This story reader was $20 for the system itself and 1 book. Each additional book is sold in either a set of 3 for $20 or 1 for $10. Overall I like this item but there are a few flaws I see with it.

First off, when purchasing the set of 3 books they are prepackaged, so you end up with 3 disney or 3 dora or 3 scooby doo. They did make a set of Nick Jr books, but then if you bought a dora set you ended up with 2 of the same titles. They are also harder to find a good variety of the book titles. My son has had this for almost 3 years and in that time I have not been able to find the tonka set I really wanted. Although they have come out with several new disney books. Also, if the system is not laying completely flat then it doesn't read the chip it needs in order for that page to be read. I did teach my son at around 3 1/2 to push the little chip if it did not start reading, but the system seems a bit touchy.

Here are a few things that I do like though. My son loves to read and I enjoy that he can sit down with it and it will read the words to him. Sometimes I cannot stop what I am doing to read to him. I also enjoy that it has a volume control. Most kids toys I find are too loud, this is not the case with this at all. I also feel as if the batteries seem to last an ample amount of time. I have only changed them out once. The pages are covered so they are a bit sturdier then a regular book, good for the little ones.

Overall, I would recommend this item but I had thought we might use it in the car and for that I don't feel it would be good due to the face that the "binding" needs to lay flat. The price is okay, I would like it to be cheaper but seems to go along with other toys in the same type catagory. I have never seen the books on sale though.
