Pure Digitals new Flip Digital Camcorder is a small, lightweight (>5oz.) designed to be relatively cheap and simple to use. It's purpose is solely point and shoot - anyone can flip it on, point it at an object, and have an instant .avi video available for immediate download. This camcorder is not intended to be a primary camcorder. It isn't good for recording life altering events, such as the birth of a child or the recording of a final will.
The Flip camcorder is excellent for its purpose. The solid plastic body makes it durable and easy to handle. The solid-state flash card guarantees that it is shock proof. The front of the body is simple and houses a single lens. The back of the camcorder is equally as simple - there is one screen (1.5") and three buttons. The three buttons are for recording, playing, and deleting. The screen allows you to view real-time recording and to view previously recorded footage. A scroll button allows you to scroll through saved videos.
The USB port is the only downside to this camcorder. In an effort to make transferring video as simple as possible, Pure Digital opted for a pop-up USB stick rather than a port for a cable. The USB plug pops up when you press a button. It's attached to a plastic stick, and is definitely capable of being broken. Because of the way it is oriented, you will need to purchase a USB extension cable to transfer video onto a desktop.
Finally, the video quality is decent. It is more than adequate for YouTube quality, and is decent for computer viewing. Though this camcorder comes with a TV plug, the videos look horrible on a television. This camcorder is best for capturing short videos and for video blogging.
