Fort Worth is such a fun place to visit. If you are unfamiliar with it, it is less than an hour east of Dallas. You can easily get there by driving or flying. If you fly, you can fly into DFW airport or if you are within driving distance, there are major interstates that go there from all directions. One of the things I love about FT. Worth is that there are so many different things to. It would be a great destination for couples, families, or just a group of friends. It is also really easy to get around in. You will probably need a car, but evrything is really close together so you won't have to to do much driving. Traffic is so much better than in Dallas and I've never had a problem parking- even in the downtown areas.

Things to do:

Ft Worth Zoo

I think this is the best zoo in Texas and also one of the top zoos nationwide. It houses more than 5000 animals. Since 1992 they have opened 15 new exibits including Asian Falls, Meerkat Mounds, World of primates, Australian Outback/Coral Reef and most recently a new penguin exhibit. This is a beautiful zoo and there is so much to see here. Tickets are $10.50 for adults and $8.00 for kids.

Botanic Gardens

Not far from the zoo you'll find the Ft Worth Botanic Gardens. The main grounds of the gardens are free and they include rose gardens, a fragrance garden, perriennial gardens and boardwalk that contains all kinds of kid friendly info about native Texas plants and birds and being green. There is also a Japenese Garden and a conservatory that you can visit for a small entrance fee. The gardens have lots wide open spaces and would be a great place to take a picnic lunch.

Museum District

Fort Worth's cultural district houses many museums of all kinds. There's the Kimball(free except for special exhibits), which has a large collection European art and also some, Asian, early American and art from ancient Greece and Rome. There's also the Amon Carter Museum which has a large collection of American Art. If you have kids you won't want to miss the Ft Worth Museum of Science, which has a planetarium, an Imax theater and many hands on exhibits for children. These are just a few of the museum you'll find in the cultural district.

Sundance Square

This is great place for shopping and eating out. It's fun to spend an afternoon or evening just walking around here or you can go to a performance at the beautiful Bass concert Hall.

The Stockyards

The Stockyards are also a great place to walk around. There are lots of restaurants and shops. If you are interested in history, take a guided walking tour of the area and find out about this important stop on the cattle drives up to Kansas. And don't miss the twice daily cattle drives that go through the Stockyards. At night you can have a drink at the White Elephant Saloon or hear some live music at Billy Bob's.

When you visit Fort Worth you are also a half hour away from Six Flags, Wet n Wild, and the Ballpark at Arlington, if you want to take in a baseball game. My husband and I have spent several weekends in Ft Worth and plan to go back this summer with our 2 year old. We always have a great time and we never run out of things to do. If you are looking for a fun, affordable vacation spot with activities for everyone, Fort Worth might be just the place.
