When my friend offered to let me borrow her book French Women Don't Get Fat, by Mireille Guiliano, I didn't jump at the chance. Because I was not struggling with my weight, I thought that reading the book would be a waste of time. I could not have been more wrong! One day, after having finished a particularly good book that left me wanting more, I finally took my friend up on her offer. I could not believe how much I enjoyed Mireille Guiliano's book! It reads like fiction and I could not put it down. I have since read the book countless times and given it as gifts to many friends, most of whom are not overweight at all.
This book is not a diet book and anyone can benefit from it. It is a book written humorously and stylishly about receiving the maximum pleasure out of life by enjoying good things without gaining weight and without going to the gym! It addresses lifestyle habits that may go against the grain for many American readers; however, it struck a chord with me and I have since not been able to stop thinking about it. French Women Don't Get Fat has become more than my philosophy: it has become my way of life. Mireille Guiliano makes it clear that anyone can enjoy life like a Frenchwoman, eating fresh, seasonal, delicious foods that include wine and chocolate. Her book teaches its readers her own secrets; life is not about depriving ourselves of its pleasures but instead of indulging ourselves in moderation. To make this lifestyle even more feasible, Mireille Guiliano includes several of her own recipes, many of which I have tried and loved. This is a book I will read again and again, and I highly recommend it to everyone, whether dieting is a part of your agenda or not!
