I recently purchased a red Casio G-Shock GLX5600 aka "G-Lide" on footlocker.com. I bought a fake Bape G-Shock 6900 on eBay a few months prior to this purchase and liked the aesthetics of it a lot so I decided to invest in a real G-Shock. I chose the G-Lide over all the other G-Shock models because it's stylish, not too bulky (unlike many G-Shocks) and much more affordable than some of the other models.
For starters, the G-Lide is much thinner than many other G-Shock models. This is primarily because G-Shock watches are known for their durability, and thicker watches tend to appear tougher than slimmer ones. The G-Lide, however, offers many of the same features as these bulkier watches such as it being water-resistant for up to 200m, shock resistant, and virtually impossible to break. This model also features a square face as opposed to a circular face that many G-Shocks have. The only reason I gave this a 4.5 and not a 5 is that the red watch is VERY red.
The G-Lide, like most G-Shocks, is made from a rubbery material that can be somewhat uncomfortable at times, but is definitely bearable. One of the best parts of this watch is the glossy exterior that gives it nice shiny appearance.
This watch has a boatload of features. Some of these include a moon phase chart, tide graph, timer, stopwatch, world time, various alarms, automatic backlight and of course very precise time keeping. At first these features seem overwhelming, but after skimming through the manual (which is about as thick as a deck of cards) I have a pretty good idea on how to use all of these. However, I'm still stuck on military time and can't seem to figure out how to change that.
I've had this watch for just about a month now and worn it almost every day. It's a very sharp, sporty piece and I have gotten many compliments on it. Overall the quality of this watch is impeccable. It's very hard to get it dirty and since it's water proof, cleaning it is a breeze. Also, I was very impressed by the case it came in. It was a metal case with the G-Shock logo on the outside and the inside was all foam with a piece cut out for the watch to fit in.
I would recommend this watch to someone that's not afraid to make a statement. The red and light blue watches are very noticeable and can only be worn with certain things, but the white and black watches are just as stylish and can be worn with almost everything. If you're looking to buy this watch the best prices can most likely be found on eBay and/or Amazon, but retailers such as Footlocker may have specials going on such as free shipping or other deals that could give you a better price. I wouldn't pay more than $90 for this.
