Gallop is written by Rufus Butler Seder. This is an unusual book as it uses a process called scanimation for the illustrations. Scanimation is where you take a layer of acetate with vertical or horizontal lines on it and lay it on top of a picture to make the picture look like it's in motion. This book has very thick board like pages.
This book uses these pictures to show how animals, birds or insects move. For example, the story asks can you gallop like a horse or strut like a rooster while the pictures demonstrate these movements.
When I first saw this book I thought how wonderful. I think one to four year old children will like this book. However the lack of a real story, in my opinion, will lose many children's interst especially older children. This book was a great idea. However, the author needs to add more depth to his stories.
Rufus Butler Seder has two scanimation books out and he has a website where you can see how scanimation works and actually buy products such as Sun catchers that use scanimation.
