This magazine is published for members of the National Home Gardening Club. It is very practical and designed for those who want a nice garden but don’t plan on spending their life savings to create it.
A number of years ago there was a short space in my life where I had a couple of extra nickels and I signed up for a life membership in the National Home Gardening Club. This means that I continue to get their magazine, called Gardening How-To. I usually read the parts that interest me and pass it on to a friend who enjoys it too.
It is published six times a year and always has some great ideas that are pertinent to the season, such as gardening in the shade, or making the most of your outdoor living space, or fragrant foliage plants to try now, etc.
Although there is nothing second rate about the ideas presented, they are at least within the budget range of many normal people. Sometimes the fancy magazines are more in the fantasy realm.
Regular features include ways to attract wildlife and butterflies, garden design, a giveaway, an advice column, a featured garden of a member, and tips from members.
This is very down-to-earth and focuses on members as well as professional writers. Somehow, although I like most of what’s in it, I don’t find that I use it as much as I would think.
You can get a one-month free membership from the web site, and learn a lot more about the “club.”
