Ahhh! The Great Smoky Mountains! Pigeon Forge.....Gatlinburg....Maggie Valley....Cades Cove. What a wonderful vacation! If you haven't travelled to this area of Tennesee, plan a trip in your future. The Smoky Mountains are so beautiful and you may even spot a bear or two or three. We always plan our trips there with accomodations in the town of Gatlinburg staying in a motel or lodge just to experience the town itself. The later part of our trip, we stay in a cabin in the mountains of Pigeon Forge. The first part of the trip, we stayed at the Inn at the Park with a room with a balcony overlooking the Little Pigeon River. There is nothing like staying on the river to listen to the running water outside your sliding glass door. Continental breakfast delivered to your door to enjoy on your balcony. There is also a Bear Lodge which has a rustic appeal not to mention various other motels right in town where all the action takes place. Gatlinburg has a ski lift. You hop on the ski lift right in town and it takes you up on top of a mountain so you can use the stationary binoculars to view the whole area. Want to go higher? Take the tram higher & higher to another mountain to see the alpine slide, ski resort, ice arena etc...You can also drive up the mountain if heights are your fear. Find the air a little thinner up there too. Gatlinburg has shopping and some really nice restaurants. There is a pancake restaurant that serves every type pancake imaginable. Be there early because there will be a line. Spend time exploring the Smokies! So beautiful! Next spend some time in Maggie Valley which is beyond the Park. Then try Pigeon Forge. Pigeon Forge is dry while Gatlinburg is not. So Pigeon Forge is more for the family with activities for children. Dollywood is there. I feel Dollywood is pricey and not that great. I was there several years ago, it may have changed since . You know if you tell anyone you went to Pigeon Forge, they will ask "Did you go to Dollywood?" So I guess you should check it out, since it is the big attraction there & Dolly Parton. The shows were pretty much the real hillbilly type music with banjos etc... I like country music, my favorite, but not that type. As mentioned, it may have changed since my visit. The cabins in Pigeon Forge are awesome with hottubs on the deck, stereos, air hockey, washer/dryer. They are just really decked out. You need to use virtual views and check out the cabins on the internet. Also read reviews. You can take a helicopter ride over the Smokies! There are outlet malls too. Wineries. This is a really romantic area and I highly recommend a honeymoon in the Smokies. The cabin rates are really reasonable too. Say you are a golfer. There is a golf course right near Dollywood. Need I say more....A must plan vacation. Hope you all have a wonderful time!
