I've been looking forward to this for months! This weekend I finally got to see the new Get Smart starring Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway. I really enjoy the reruns and DVD's of the original TV series Get Smart, and I was excited to see how they would remake it.

For those of you not familiar with the original, Get Smart is an action/comedy about secret agents Maxwell Smart and his beautiful female counterpart, Agent 99, who work for a top-secret American intellegence agency. Their primary goal is to thwart the schemes of a terrorist organization known as "KAOS."

Steve Carell plays a very convincing Maxwell Smart. His wit, physical comedy, and dead-pan humour perfectly portray the good-intentioned, but bumbling, agent. And while the movie contains subplots that are not found in the original series, it still provides plenty of nostalgia for the Get Smart fan. Fang, Hymie, the Cone of Silence, and the ever-classic Shoe Phone all make an appearance.

There are no usual Special Features on this DVD. Instead you can select an option to view the movie again with many of the out-takes included. This means that after a scene has been played in the finished version, it will cut several times letting you see different punch lines or variations of the scene. Some of the improv on the part of the actors is very funny to watch, but it got tedious and even tasteless at times. There is a reason those parts were taken out in the first place! Also, parents should know that these contain a fair bit of swearing and sexual innuendo.

This movie was fun to watch, but I can't give it a full 5 out of 5. There is nothing really wrong with this movie per se, but it's just not a home run. I think in an attempt to combine action and comedy, this movie comes up just a little bit short in both categories. Still, it was good for a night of laughs, and I would recommed it especially if you were a fan of the original.
