Ginger and Brigitte are sisters, who enjoy everything macabre and goth. Ginger has just turned 16 and has started menstruating. one night there is a full moon and a werewolf bites Ginger. After a few days, her body and personality change. Brigitte tries to find a cure. Another full moon approaches and Ginger gets violent.

When I first saw this film, being a fan of the usual werewolf stories, I didn't like it very much. I thought it was quirky and had a terrible-looking werewolf. I watched the sequel and loved it and the second sequel blew me away! It grew on me and I found out that G

inger and Brigitte really were great characters. I watched this original again and it has become one of my favorites.

Most werewolf films are awful but this is one of the better ones in the last twenty years. This movie refreshed my belief that werewolf movies CAN be done well and with great character development. It offers a new spin on the age-old werewolf tale. It's not a simple wolf kills people story. It mixes the lunar cycle with female menstruation, which definitely not for everyone. Some viewers will find it interesting, others will find it gross, and some will find it funny.

After Ginger is bitten, her personality and behavior slowly change. She gets more daring and dresses sexy. She gets a boyfriend and goes wild. She becomes primal and prowls the night killing dogs, which everyone believes is the work of a wild animal.

On Brigitte's side, she has matured and suspects that Ginger is a werewolf. She tries to stop the change.

The sisters' family is strange. Their father never knows what is going on with his family. Their mother is the strangest and most mysterious character out of every one. When she discovers that Ginger has begun menstruating, she bakes her a cake in celebration. She knows something is up and is hiding it.

The SFX are hit and miss. There is plenty of gore and blood and most of it looks believable. However, the werewolves look like giant, hairless rats. The metamorphosis isn't very good but it's workable. The werewolves look much better in the sequels.

I liked this film a lot. The new rules for werewolves and the character development were intriguing. If you can get passed the new rules and the fury of the menstrual cycle, then you'll really enjoy this.

Memorable Quotes:

Brigitte: Are you *sure* it's just cramps?

Ginger: Just so you know, the words "just" and "cramps", they don't go together.
