This product has been discontinued by manufacturer but is still available in some locations.

GPX's C983 CD boombox is a combined a CD player, AM/FM stereo tuner, and stereo cassette player.

It plays both 5" and 3" audio CDs in a top-loader format. CD Intro Scan samples the first few seconds of each track and Track Repeat repeats a single track or a CDTrack Repeat repeats a single track or an entire disc.

Cassettes play until they end and the players shuts itself off. It has a soft-eject cassette system, so the tapes don't eject like bullets and decapitate you at the neck; it just glides open smoothly.

It has full-range speakers and a Stereo headphone jack. The power source is either AC with includes adaptor cord or 8 C batteries.

The unit is about half the size as a boom box with a carrying handle and antenna. It's slightly bigger around than a CD player. IT's 10.8 x 12.5 x 7.6 inches and weighs 5.8 pounds without batteries.

I've used this player occasionally for a few years without a problem. The radio doesn't get too many channels and a bit of static. The tapes and CDs play without a hitch and no skipping. Based on the CD section, it looks like it would skip while in a moving vehicle. I've only used it with the electric cord, so I'm unsure how long the batteries last. The speaker sound is okay but I've never played it at maximum volume. Some users say it sounds bad at higher volumes.

Not bad for the $20 I paid. Don't expect Bose-quality sound.
