I began doing yoga back in college. It was a great way to stay in shape and a wonderful way to begin and end the day. After three years of classes, I started teaching some myself. I continued to teach a few classes and gain more certifications until I started a family. Like many women; my kids, husband and even the family pets are given more attention than I give myself and I just ran of hours in the day! I always assumed I'd get back into it.
Well fate intervened and my husband and I were rear-ended. This was nearly 2 years ago and we are still both suffering from it. After going through all the therapies and being labeled with ‘chronic pain" a therapist suggested I try yoga. She felt it might help ease some of the back pain and she was right! I am in no way able to forgo all my pain medication but I believe I am able to function better because of it. I am back doing yoga 4-6 days a week and finally rewarded myself with a much needed new yoga mat.
Obviously, buying eco-friendly is not the most important deciding factor when it comes to yoga mats but it was a very nice bonus! The Scott Pilates eco-friendly mat is made from thermal plastic eastomer (TPE) foam. It is chloride-free and contains absolutely no latex or PVC. It is both 100% recyclable and 100% biodegradable. Very cool, even ultra earth friendly teen approved!
Mat Colors and Specs
The Scott Pilates eco-friendly mat is ¼ inch thick, which makes them thicker than many other mats: in fact double over a lot of them! This is nice as the thicker size is better protection for your spine.
The mat is 69 inches long and 24 inches wide. It is available in two color combinations: mango/watermelon and midnight blue/twilight which I bought. It is a higher quality than most of the other mats at my class and certainly has excellent traction.
To clean it I just use a spray bottle (with water) and lightly wet the soiled area. I then wipe it dry with a clean terry cloth towel, patting it down firmly to remove all the water.
The Scott Pilates eco-friendly mat can be found at many stores that carry yoga equipment both B&M and online. I checked prices before buying mine and saved by picking it up at Wal-Mart. I would recommend this mat to anyone doing yoga or Pilates, regardless of their level. It comes with its own carrying strap.
