The grout surrounding my kitchen tiles is looking very ‘tired' and grey. When we had the tiles put in, we never had the grout sealed so it looks terrible now! I couldn't stand it anymore! Although I've tried everything under the sun, I still wasn't giving up. There HAD to be something that would bring life back to that grout.
It just so happens I was at Bed Bath and Beyond (for something else!), and found an "As Seen on TV" product by the name of Grout Aide. It's shaped like a fat pen-shaped marker, and it's filled with a latex paint-like substance. (In fact it could be latex paint for all I know. The tube doesn't really say what's in there!) The instructions say to shake the ‘pen', and then press the ‘nib' (felt-like tip) onto a surface to prime the Grout Aide. I got everything flowing, but soon found out that the nib was a bit too fat to get into my grout lines without squishing over on to the tiles. With a little creative thinking I solved the problem. I squeeze the liquid on to a paper plate, and then use a very thin makeup brush to dip into it and paint the grout. Usually, I have a small bowl of water nearby so I can thin the Grout Aid if needed, or clean my brush. It works beautifully! Now the yucky grout looks all the yuckier! But the painted grout looks so clean!
It's tedious work, but to me it's worth it. When I'm finished my kitchen countertop will look like new!
