Lexus has a motto that claims they pursue perfection. After owning this vehicle for 13 years, I can say that they indeed have taken extraordinary measures to manufacture the best vehicles on the road.
The build quality of the car is quite good, but not quite up to level with German manufacturers. However, the car is extremely reliable. We have had very superficial problems with the vehicle, and almost no mechanical problems even after driving the car for more than 100, 000 miles. The premium sound system in the vehicle is also among the better ones in the industry, delivering rich sound throughout the cabin.
The performance of the car is the one area where the car could use improvement. The vehicle has a 200 horsepower motor, which was around the same of competitors like the Acura TL, but I feel like the car could benefit from additional power. 0 to 60 times for the vehicle is around the mid to high 7's, which is typical for cars in this price range. Gas mileage is good by late 1990's standards (17 city, 24 highway). I actually observe around 21 mpg in the city and 26 or so on the highway.
If you were looking for an outstanding vehicle for under 10, 000 dollars this might be one of your better bets. Outstanding reliability, decent performance, and a nice cabin for around 5000 dollars is a great deal and would be a lot more economical than purchasing a new Lexus for north of 40, 000 dollars.
