My daughter needed a compact fridge for her dorm room. After looking at other models, we decided to go with the Haier 1.7 Cu. Ft. Mini Fridge. For the price, I figured, even if it lasts just a year, she will have gotten her use out of it. The dimensions of this mini-fridge are approximately 17" wide x 19" deep x 20" high. Weighing in at a mere 22 lbs, it is easy to move around your dorm, den, boat, office, or wherever. You can hear the fan blowing on this unit, so it is not entirely silent, but this sound is not obtrusive. There is a removeable shelf with 3 levels in which to place it on. This unit does allow some decent storage, such as a spot for a 2 liter bottle of pop. We found the temp is best when used on the highest setting, so if you are looking for more of a powerhouse, this might not be the unit for you. This unit does not have a freezer section for ice, which was ok with us.. no defrosting. This fridge uses the coolant free system, which is supposed to be earth friendly, but this might also be why some complain the temp is not cool enough. My daughter wished this unit would have come in black. I agree. I have read some not so favorable reviews on this product, so do your research. Thanks!
Update On Feb 15, 2008: My daughter is very pleased with this fridge after five months of college dorm use. She says it keeps things nice and cold. We decided to buy the same model for my son. If I were reviewing it today, I might give it a higher rating.
