Early this year on a particularly frigid day, the outdoor light that is located by our front entry door decided to blow. At the time we had a very simple round white globe as the fixture, one that I'd always wanted to replace but as it was in perfect condition, we didn't see the need at the time.
As my husband removed the globe to replace the light bulb, the entire globe simply shattered, spewing little chards of white glass everywhere! Thankfully, my husband didn't get hurt by this unexpected explosion, but now we had to purchase a new light fixture so as not to leave the bulb exposed to the elements.
We headed to Home Depot and found this adorable little lantern shaped fixture. It is only 7.5" tall with frosted glass inserts and copper finish and it is so nice that I want to change both the globe fixture at the front of the garage now as well as the light fixture at the back of the house with these.
The finish has stood up to weather very well with no signs of wear yet, although we'll see how this winter treats it. Overall, it allows a bright level of light to shine through the four glass inserts and gives the front of the house a nice, welcoming feel.
We purchased this light fixture on sale for just $16.99, regular $19.99, and it was simple to install, by just removing the base of the previous light fixture and hooking up the wiring correctly, my husband had it up and functioning in a matter of minutes. We've been using an exterior CFL bulb in it and have had absolutely no problem with it.
This is a great looking outdoor light fixture that is easy to install and the base of the lantern is large enough to allow you to put your hand in to replace burned out bulbs with little effort. A great look for a low cost. I intend to purchase a few more of these shortly.
