Our friends had purchased this Rowenta Advancer 1800 watt 400 steam hole iron about 2 years ago. Ever since then, we've wanted one really bad, but it had cost $200 at that time. Then other friends of ours bought one for $150, but that was still just way over the top for us - even though my husband had used it and absolutely loved it.

So - fast forward to a month ago when we were in Big Lots and we saw they had this iron in a refurbished condition for an even $50.00. Talk about a deal! And we didn't care that it is refurbished because that only means it was checked thoroughly after going back to the manufacturer. The "mark" we saw for the refurbish is a small dent near the steam holes - big deal for 1/4 the price it cost our friends. This tiny dent doesn't impact the ironing capability or quality of this iron.

Let me tell you - my husband truly loves to iron with this thing. It's quite large and feels very nice in the hand. Rowenta has been around for over 100 years and is in Germany, so the craftsmanship is top notch. This iron literally glides across your clothes.

I am so happy that we could finally toss out our old irons that had scortch marks on them and that always leaked.

Here are the features:

Bursts of steam and there is a delicate steam setting or high pressure steam for heavy fabrics

Vertical steaming - yes, you can steam clothes while they hang

No drip prevents spitting or dripping when on a low setting and has a no leaking feature with a covered filling inlet

Self cleaning

Turns off after 8 minutes and also 30 seconds of none use

3-way smart auto off: switches iron off in 8 minutes if left vertically; 30 seconds if horizontally and also turns off in 30 seconds if tipped over

Integrated cartridge for longer lasting steam performance

High pressure steam that's perfectly distributed

1800 watts

Large water tank holds 10 ounces of water

Soft touch handle

The iron comes with a one year warranty, which I guess is normal and since we only paid $50 for it, I am not too worried. If I had paid $200, then I might have hoped for a longer warranty. But considering how long Rowenta has been around, I don't forsee any problems.

The main thing my husband loves the most in this iron is that when either he or I iron his shirts, the wrinkles don't reappear after the clothes hang in the closet, like it always had happened with our other irons. And I have to admit that I really haven't done that much ironing either. He just enjoys it that much, which for me is great and since it glides so fast across the fabric, ironing is done super fast.

That's a great thing indeed!

Update On Apr 11, 2010: We are loving this iron. My husband jumps on the ironing frenzy and really does enjoy it. The way this iron glides over fabrics is simply a dream. Highly recommend!
