....call for desperate measures. Suffering from high speed internet withdrawal, I purchased a Cricket A600 broadband wireless modem to continue what I love best; to write. My current provider prices were sky rocketing and I could no longer afford the monthly commitment, so I switched to a more practical use of internet connection. Thus, meaning more easier on my wallet and my sanity.
First off, the device seemed promising. I tested the connection in-store which ran smoothly. The whole process from choosing a device to activation was painless and it took less than 5 minutes. But, once I got home and tried to install the device on my home PC, things became a little more difficult.
When the salesperson explained the installation process, he made it sound so simple. Well, no. It did't go down that way. Once I got it home and plugged it in, it took about 10-15 minutes to start the installation. We had to try several times to connect, which resulted to calling customer service. The rep made mattesr worse. From my understanding they have no way of telling you if the device is faulty or not. That was no help! Cricket customer service line centers around cell phone use, not broadband. He had no knowledge of broadband troubleshooting, nor could he navigate me through the installation process. I've should've realized the in-store demo, was just that a "demo".
After hanging up the phone angrily, my husband was finally successful. We soon witnessed the 3G speed is quite slow; pictures take quite a while to load, video stream is broken and utilizing multiple pages is not recommended. On the positive side, you do get a good deal. Cricket A600 offers a $50.00 mail in rebate, via prepaid card. It also has a microsd slot that holds 4gb card, tri-band phone, no cd (prompted installation) and the monthly commitment is $40.00. Another cool feature- no restrictions to home. A very small price to pay for convenience. Honestly, I'm ok with the service, because it's all I have at the moment, but wait til I get my finances right...this joker is gone. Maybe I'll give it to my baby sis for a birthday gift. LOL!
