I originally bought this scale to weigh mail. I was printing Paypal postage at home, and I needed to know how much each item weighed. This worked effectively for me. Though eventually, I didn't need the scale anymore in that regard. My mom needed a scale to measure food. She needed something that would tell her how many ounces of food she should eat for a meal to help her stay on her plan.
I realized I had exactly the thing she needed and gave it to her right away. She uses it all the time when making her meals.
The Salter Diet Scale has a 500 gram / 16 oz capacity. Its precision is 5 grams / 1/4 oz. The scoop portion at the top easily can be put at the top of the scale and taken off.
My mom puts her food right into the scoop, if it isn't too messy. If it is messy, like meat or fish, she first takes a plate and then measures that. Then she will put the food onto the plate and put it ontop of the scoop. The combined weight of the food and plate minus the weight of the plate itself, gives the weight of the food.
A special feature of the scale I like is that the scale fits into the scoop easily. Which means, someone could make this quite compact, if they wanted to bring it with them on the go.
The dimensions are as follows: The width of the scoop is 4.5" on the front. The width of the scoop on the side is 3.25". The depth of the scoop is 2.5". When the scale is put together with the scoop on top, it is 7" tall. This diet scale has a 10 year warranty! It says so right on the box.
