I love children's picture books. I especially like books about pancakes. The credit for that, goes to a little book from my childhood called The Runaway Pancake. I loved it dearly.
I am always happy to find new books on pancakes. The book I am reviewing is titled, Hey, Pancakes! This book is recommended for toddlers and pre-schoolers. It is a rhyming book of sorts.
While I thought this book was cute, I guess after the rave reviews I have seen elsewhere, I was a bit disappointed. The ryhming is fun, but I have to say there is nothing about this book that would make me want to purchase it for any children in my family.
I get the impression this book was written to appeal to adults to buy for children, rather than written for children. Small children might not understand the "cuteness" behind some of the phrases.
The illustrations are sweet, done in pencil, pastel, and watercolor, but they are not exactly the types of illustrations I like. The random paint splatters make it a bit busy and the art is a little more cartoony than I like.
That said, the illusrtrations are very well done with some really cute details like the honey bear and the little car. The children have cute faces. There is even a recipe for Grandma's Pancakes in the back of the book in case you, or your little reader, get hungry while reading it.
I am sure many children and adults love this book. I don't find anything unlikeable about it, it is just not something I will remember or wish to own. Check it out for yourself, you may love it!
