QVC finally offered a laptop I can use for quite a while and I am more than excited. I received an Email from QVC a couple weeks ago stating I was getting a Sneak Preview and pre-sale price on this laptop! I almost fell out of my chair.
This laptop was selling for a flat $948.00 with a 6 Easy Payment Plan. I could NOT pass this baby up! Yes, hubby is wanting mine now but he got his this past December and THIS is mine! My order was filled immediately, shipped on April 26th and was in my hands on April 28th! Talk about fast shipping. The only problem is that they keep using UPS and those guys always bang up your box but luckily my laptop was fine.
The screen is a full and true 17.3" diagonal screen that also can play BluRay movies. I wasn't looking for that since my husband's new laptop had it, but it was bonus for me! The screen is so much brighter (they call it LED Brightview) and more clear than my dying PC Desktop. I never knew it was so bad.
The battery is an 8-cell, yes EIGHT cell lithium-ion battery. That means longer battery life when it's unplugged.
It comes installed with the Windows 7 operating system and Office trial version. That's ok because we still have licenses available for me to install the full Office Suite, which I did. I also did not choose to use the Norton Anti-Virus and instead installed Avast Anti-Virus for free.
There is a web cam and full keyboard with numeric keypad on the right side.
4 USB ports - I am so happy about this because I normally am dogging my computer with all of the work I do each day.
Since it's running a 64-bit system, I have to check the software I normally use and make sure it can run on this machine. So far, there have been no problems.
I also got a software package that included Laplink's PCMover and a few games, plus a family tree maker called "Lineage". The PCMover did not work for me and if you'd like, please check out my review on it. I could have been using my laptop a full day sooner had that program really worked as it should.
There are also two headphone out jacks, one microphone-in, HDMI, VGA, and other stuff that makes this thing work great but are too boring to put here. If you want the rest, here it is: eSATA, RJ -45 LAN and High Definition resolution.
The weight is what you'd expect on a laptop this size. No netbook for me - I'd fill that thing just by transferring my artwork over. I need the speed and room this offers.
Sound on this laptop is awesome. It's actually so much better than the one my husband got and I am just being honest. It has a touch slide control right under the screen with touch pad pause, forward, reverse and stop "buttons".
The keyboard is so smooth and I am very happy since I am hard on my keyboards from constant daily use. It almost feels like my desktop keyboard I love using with the PC, so this is great. I guess the only downside is the keyboard is not backlit, but that's ok.
I also got a remote control with this laptop! I'm serious on how cool this is and feel it was a blessing to be able to purchase it on the 6 payment plan. The wait was definitely worth it.
The pictures don't do this justice.
Update On May 07, 2010: I have to say that I absolutely LOVE this laptop. I am also really liking Windows 7. The whole process and shortcuts are wonderful. I am saving SO much time by using them and yet I still have more to learn. 6GB RAM and 500GB Harddrive!!! So excited - can you tell?
Update On Jun 21, 2010: I absolutely love this laptop from HP. I have had it for two months and love the keyboard, as it has an easy flow on the keys when you type. I don't like "clicky" keyboards. I love the large screen and all of the added features. The sound quality is wonderful and HP definitely fixed this issue from previous laptops that didn't have the ability to go very loud. I am also loving the Windows 7 software features. The shortcuts offered with Windows 7 has made my job much easier and faster.
Update On Aug 07, 2010: Going on 4 months now since I bought this laptop from QVC. I could not be more thrilled. The speaker system is great and with all of the USB ports, I an connect my external harddrive (when needed), headset, iPhone and external keyboard with no problem. No, I don't really need the external keyboard but the way my desk is, I have my laptop on the top "shelf" of the desk and it's too high to type on but the screen is at the perfect level. My external keyboard is on the bottom level of my desk and just makes it easier to work. Oh, I also have my external trackball attached for ease.
