Ok, I admit, when you think "farmer's market, " you probably think, "So what?" Hinish's is so much more than a traditional farmer's market- there are so many things to do, you will want to visit again and again, and during different seasons to experience all they have to offer.
Hinish's is open all-year round, but my favorite time of year to visit is late summer / early fall. There is a main building that houses all the tables full of fresh fruit and vegetables that are all grown by the Hinish family or other local farmers. On the tables, you will also find items that you can use with the ingredients on the table, which is a nice touch. For example, with the apples, you will find mixes to make apple crumb cake, and recipes. Each table is labeled very clearly with each fruit/vegetable's variety information, and ideas on how to use them in cooking and/or baking.
Hinish's also carries an extensive selection of crafts, preserved jams and jellies, bulk candy, and a fantastic bakery which comes highly recommended. The staff is friendly and helpful.
Outside you will find raised flower beds where you can cut your own fresh bouquets, and there is also a greenhouse for plants and flowers. During the fall they offer a corn maze for the whole family, which is very popular. The theme on the corn maze changes every year, so it is fun to visit every fall.
Outside of the main building there, are wooden play houses for the kids to play in- my son loves to visit these every time we go. Also, there are tables and chairs under the porch to sit on and enjoy a snack from the market while you can smell the nearby flower beds, and enjoy the country atmosphere while you kick back and relax.
Hinish's is a place that we like to visit quite often, and we often meet people from other states while we are there, which my son loves. He likes to check out the parking lot and see what license plates we can find. So, if you are ever in the neighborhood, check out Hinish's Farm Market.
