Home Movies: Season One is a wonderful packaging of the cult tv series.
Home Movies is an offbeat animated comedy based around the experiences of a precocious 8 year old who attempts to make epic films with little more than a camcorder and his two best friends. This first season is presented in "squiggle vision", a retro-computer animation style used in other shows (including Dr. Katz) that some find headache inducing-- leading to later seasons dropping the style. Both the look and style may not be for everyone, but fans of absurd humor and the charmingly simple (almost child like) art style have a lot to enjoy in this dvd set.
Season One is presented as 3 dvds, each in its own slim dvd case with new and amusing artwork, held together in a cardboard slip case. The picture quality is as good as it was in the original airing, though the unusual style of the animation makes quality hard to judge. There are many, many bonus features, including creator commentaries and interviews. Especially interesting to me was learning the history of the show, which was canceled after a short run on network television, only to run for four full seasons on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim.
This is a great collection for any fan of the show. Those who haven't seen it may want to preview the comedy before purchasing, but those who "get it" will find this set well worth the price.
