On my recent trip to Florida I decided to take the family to the Lake Homosassa Wildlife park. The endangered Manatee, exclusive to area, finds refuge here, and I wanted my kids to see this gentle giant up close. Upon arrival there is a wildlife education area that explains about the habitats of animals that live right there in Western Florida. A trolley takes you back a mile or so to the nature trails where you can see all kinds of animals like Florida Alligators, flamingos, Eagles, birds and small foxes. We saw a Hippo eating her lunch of watermelons and the kids loved that. The best part was seeing the manatees up close. They have an observatory that leads you down 30 feet in the water and the manatees swim up and you can see them swimming in their environment. Too Cool! There is a small fee to get into this park but its worth it. There really isn't a restaurant nearby, just an expensive snack bar. Pack a picnic lunch and enjoy a great family day!
