My skin was getting so dry and flaky from being cooped up in the house with the heater on all the time. This humidifier was much needed. I just run it at night, while I sleep, and I don't wake up to dry, flaky skin. Our bedroom is really large (I don't know the square footage), but the humidifier seems to be the right size for the room. The only bad part is it sounds like there is water boiling or coffee percolating. It was a little hard for me to get used to, at first, because I like the room to be completely quiet, but the sound of water is sort of soothing, so it wasn't hard to fall asleep. The unit has a UV light in the base that kills bacteria, mold, and spores. You do have to replace the mineral absorption pads, but only about once a month (more often, depending on your water). I especially like that I can put tap water into this unit - I do not have to buy distilled water. You can use distilled water with it, but you may need to add a little salt. Just add a little white vinegar to the water in the tank and then rinse it all out to clean it. Very easy.
