I've done a lot of travelling, and stayed in many places, from budget motels, to five star hotels.. but this was by far the most memorable one.
Before the trip, we'd read up a lot about the hotel, so we were prepared for the worst. We brought our own sheets for the bed, and flip flops for the shower, etc. Our first thoughts on seeing the room was that it wasn't half as bad as we were expecting. The bathroom door wouldn't close, and the light bulb went out, but nothing we couldn't handle. However, it ended up living up to it's reputation. My sister left an unopened bar of chocolate on the bedside table that night, and we woke up in the morning to discover we'd had a little visitor during the night. The bar of chocolate was half eaten with teeth marks on both sides that could only be from a rat (or two). We also discovered baby cockroaches in the bed and bathroom.
But for that price and location.. over Thanksgiving.. we can't complain too much! We had an awesome time in New York, and if it wasn't for the Hotel Carter, we probably wouldn't have been able to afford the trip. It was fine for someone like us, without kids, who doesn't spend much time in the hotel besides to sleep.. but I wouldn't reccommend it for a family vacation.
