When I bought my laptop from Best Buy, I was eligible for a $40-$60 discount on a new printer to go with it. I had been needing a new printer. My old HP printer was just horrible from the moment I took it out of the box. The printer never did align correctly, so the words always doubled up and blurred in the center of the page, and the ink cartridges were very expensive to replace at about $40 each.
I had such a bad experience with my old HP printer that I was planning to buy any other model that wasn't an HP. But after reading a lot of different reviews online, I discovered that my old HP printer was known for being a piece of junk, but so were a lot of the other inexpensive models that Best Buy was offering at discount prices with the purchase of a new laptop. But the HP Deskjet Multifunction Printer/Copier/Scanner F4480had some really good reviews and no complaints from anyone who had bought one. So I decided to take a chance on another HP printer, and I'm so happy I did.
Pros: Unlike most printers, the HP Deskjet F4480can be set to print a color page with just the black ink cartridge, which is particularly handy when you want to print a mostly black ink webpage that has the blue ink links at the bottom of the page. Printing in color is photographic quality, particularly if I'm using glossy photographic paper, and I am very pleased with the results. The HP 60 ink cartridges are relatively inexpensive to replace, just $13 for the black cartridge and $18 for the tricolor cartridge at Walmart. And the printer connects to my computer via a USB cable, which is particularly convenient for me as I have one desktop and two laptops that I may be trying to print from at any one time.
Cons: The HP Deskjet F4480doesn't come with the USB cable. I used the USB cable from my old printer, or I could have purchased a new USB cable for about $5-10 more.
I've printed off several large owner's manuals now and several different Mapquest maps, and I'm very pleased with the printing quality of the HP Deskjet F4480. Although I wouldn't recommend this printer for anyone who does a lot of printing, the HP Deskjet F4480is a good printer for somebody who's ink usually dries up faster than they can use it all.
